Please keep your awesome questions for Lauren coming!!!
What are you doing for fun today?
This weekend?
You know I LOVE to hear your plans!
This is what I WISH we were doing this weekend! (see pix):)
Q: Which is better?: full fat coconut milk or half-n-half (cream/milk). This is a question on of our readers asked because she wanted to be sure she was using the healthier choice when preparing her coffee. A tricky question this is: Hmmm…They both include sat fats. And isn’t coconut milk higher in fats and calories? This dietitian took her research to heart to determine just which may be the healthier choice to add to her coffee.
A: Vegan diets (and vegetarian) diets may be associated with lowered heart disease related issues (including cholesterol, blood pressure, hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes)… and even cancers, according to scientific studies. And this is thoroughly examined in the documentary Forks over Knives – limiting animal products and processed foods in favor of a more plant-based food diet.
I recently read an interview with Robert Cohen, author of “Milk, the Deadly Poison”. Although I still believe low fat, skim milk can still be part of a healthy diet, this information was helpful in researching which may be a healthier choice (full fat coconut milk or half and half). Because half and half includes some cream (full fat) – even though generally used in small amounts for coffee – I do believe low fat milk or (in reference to this question) coconut milk to be a better choice…*
Recommendation: Try So Delilicious, Unsweetened Coconut Milk for lower fat, calories
(MORSELIST NOTE: I mix FULL FAT Coconut Milk with some So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk together-a TASTY combo) Here’s a pix of my morning coco de nuit lait cafe: (That’s French for Coconut Milk Latte-kind of) 🙂 and my sister & I enjoying the water from a Tahitian Coconut.

I use skim milk in my smoothies. Will using coconut milk add calories and or change the taste
Thanks for your question, Marjoe.
I would suggest you try it…I LOVE it, but if you are adverse to coconut milk,
maybe try a combination of almond milk/coconut milk?
Please let us know what you think.
Thank you, Primo!!!
I’m a HUGE fan of coconut milk and I love hearing your opinions!
Hello! I have to pipe in here a bit. As a clinical nutritionist with a holistic background I never recommend skim milk. That is not a whole food. If you are going to drink milk then I recommend WHOLE milk from a grass fed cow. That’s a whole food. Skim milk is a processed food. Milk in any form tends to be inflammatory. Many people have problems with lactose while others cannot digest the casein in milk. If you are one of the lucky that tolerate milk well, drink it whole and raw from a happy cow please (www.realmilk.com). Also, coconut milk is high in medium chain fatty acids which are very good for you! This is my first choice. Lastly, there is mounting evidence that saturated fat from healthy sources is good for you (especially your brain) in moderate amounts. Not all saturated fats are bad. This myth has been debunked long ago.
Primo,
Thank you for your insight on milk. I will look more into that.
Of course, I’m delighted you recommend/support the intake of whole coconut!
Forks over Knives is FABULOUS and yea for Coconut Milk!!!
You are welcome! : )
I have heard a lot of great things regarding Forks over Knives! It is on my list to see as well as stocking up on more coconut milk! Thanks as always for the info!!!
