Breaks & Rituals

In an overly busy, technically communicative 24/7 world, it is more important than ever for ALL of us to take breaks for ourselves.
Many of us do not; however, using the excuse, “who has TIME to take a break?” Well, I ask, who can afford NOT to take a break, however little, big, early or late. Bottom line: WE ALL NEED ONE! Through the years, I’ve come to understand the importance of taking well deserved & much needed breaks while maintaining my favorite rituals.

The dictionary defines “ritual” as:
–noun
an established or prescribed procedure for a religious or other rite. –adjective
of the nature of or practiced as a rite or ritual: a ritualdance.

While, rituals do not have to pertain to religion, I am religious with my rituals.

I look forward to my morning coffee as I get ready for bed while engaging in my night time rituals; washing my face, moisturizing, brushing & flossing my teeth. Climbing into bed refreshed & well hydrated, reading a few chapters of whatever book I’m reading at the time.

My morning ritual begins with a freshly brewed cup of strong Organic Coffee and Steamed Half & Half.
My only real vice & I love it too much to give up, though on occasion, I will, just to test myself. I love the aroma of the fresh ground beans, the warmth of the mug in my hands just before sipping, the taste on my tongue and smooth sensation making its way down my throat, relishing each layer of the aromatic blends. Sipping strong, hot coffee first thing in the morning, while listening to the world awaken is magical. The birds chirp, the newspaper lands at the door, a few cars whiz by, the sprinklers quench the garden
and all my senses are awakened. This has become my favorite ritual of all and I use it as a treat or break for myself.
Taking breaks can become rituals if we make time for them.
I find that mornings before most people are up, are the best time for me to take my break.
While, it’s not a mid afternoon break, it’s just as important, if not more so for me and I’m selfish and religious about taking it. It’s the little things…

What rituals or breaks do you take? Cherish? Wish you’d take?
