You know the saying and philosophy, “too much of a good thing is, well, sometimes just too much?”
Ok, so I altered it a tad to illustrate my tale.
My good friend, Lindsay told me about this wonderful Chia Pudding Recipe she made & even shared a little with me. Note, “little” is the key word. I devoured the pudding and decided to embark on creating my own version of this high protein, high fiber, low sugar, low sodium tasty snack. After one of my Mac-n-Mo’s Demos, I scouted out some Chia Seeds, Spices, Raw Almonds, Unsweetened Almond Milk, etc. and I was ready to hit my test kitchen! OMG! Yummy chia heaven! Lindsay suggested using a jar and to let the ingredients sit overnight in the fridge. Just like the old Chi Chi Chia Pet Commercials from our youth, our at least those of this Morselist’s Generation, chia seeds grow & expand in water/liquid. (Remind me later to share a story of a woman who actually complained her carpet was growing vertically & my immediate thought, after, this woman is nuts, did she scatter chia seeds into the padding?) Back to my pudding. As the hours passed, I kept going back to my fridge to taste test the Chia Pudding & with every spoonful, I found it more and more delicious, delectable, addicting!!!
I left Lindsay a message thanking her for the recipe ideas, sharing how much fun I was having playing with spices, nuts, different non dairy milks. Before the night was over, I had developed what I termed, “a chia tummy!” Chia Seeds have 5g fiber per Tablespoon and before the night was through, I had consumed over 1/4 cup of Chia Seeds, that’s over 20g of fiber, not to mention the nuts I had also added.
Bad chia tummy! This morselist was so excited to find a new yummy recipe and since no other taste testers were around, the yummy bloated the tummy!
Before I went to sleep, I checked my messages and Lindsay had warned me in big letters,
GLAD YOU LIKE. CHIA SEEDS CONTAIN A TON OF FIBER!!! SO DON’T OVER DO IT!”
There it was. Lindsay had warned me, but it was too late!
The moral of this morselist’s tale: Respect the chia, savor the chia, but in no uncertain terms, DO NOT gobble the chia!
