Monday Morse LIST Favorite Work Outs

Monday’s are usually our toughest day to get motivated to move.
We had our weekend to chill out. Hopefully we
were able to steal a little time for ourselves, decompress,
rejuvenate & recharge our batteries for the week ahead.
We all know the importance of exercise as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.

I strive for 20-30 minute every day or
at least 6 days a week, enough to get my glow!
Many of you have asked what I
do for exercise. How do I stay consistent?
Studies have proven starting on a more healthful path is
easier than sticking with it.
For me, the key to sticking with it is by doing something I enjoy.
I’ve tried a number of work outs I do NOT enjoy, thus,
have NOT returned to those particular exercises.
I’m not saying, there are days I don’t FEEL like exercising.
But that’s where the push comes in
and the things that push or motivate me are
a work out buddy,
great tunes on your ipod
and most importantly a routine or exercise you actually enjoy!
Trust me, it makes getting out of bed,
slipping on your sneakers and work out clothes much more tolerable.
Another tip, as soon as you wake up, put on your work out clothes.
The act of DOING instead of just thinking or planning your work out,
is a much stronger commitment.
Find something you enjoy,
create a great play list of songs for yourself
and ask a friend to join you.
Once you get in the habit/routine, you’ll WANT to do it.
Remember, it takes 21 days to create a new habit.
So, be good to yourself and commit to stick with it for 21 days and get your GLOW!

Here are the Morse LIST’s favorite work outs!

-Hiking
-Power Walking
-Swimming
-Bike Riding on the beach
-Yoga
-Cross Training in the gym: mix up treadmill, bike, elliptical
free weights, resistance bands, stretching
-Spinning

I’d LOVE to hear some of your favorite butt busting moves and inspiring tunes to get you into the groove.

  1. Traditional West African dancing is my favorite way to move. I took a West African Drum and Dancing course back in college, focusing on Ghanaian traditions, and never forgot the experience. I bought an instructional DVD a few years back for a dance from a different West African country, I think the Ivory Coast, but it’s not the same alone in my living room without the rumbling of the drums, and the other dancers, and making sure not to step and jump so hard because of downstairs neighbors.

  2. I soo agree with the idea that variety is the key to working out – it helps me to be adventurous! Try a class in something you’ve never done before, like a zumba class or yoga bootie. When it comes to ipod tunes, put together a mix from a particular period in your life – for me its 80′s music – its like a miniature time machine that rockets me back to a dance floor….uh-oh, too much information…
Above all , what works for me is – JUST DO IT. Love Maura’s comment about putting on workout clothes first thing, I sometimes literally put them at the foot of my bed.the night before. And once I get started, I always feel better, whether its for 20 minutes or a couple of hours.
    Keep moving!

  3. Great article and great tips! I find that having a friend to join you for your workout makes it so much more fun and if I have my ipod with me with songs that I like, it’s very helpful too! And thanks for the 21 days to make a new habit reminder–that is so true and very inspiring for everyone! THanks for the great article!

  4. Maura-

GREAT articles – and listening to one of your radio shows right now too (with Jaime Saginor). Fantastic information that had never heard before….really amazing stuff to think about when it comes to listening to your body and listening to your cravings to see where you’re out of balance. Really cool. Thanks for all the incredible information. You rock!
