Q. I LOVE the name TEECCINO. Please describe what it is and how did you come up with such a fun name?
I LOOOVE fun names!
A. The brand name, Teeccino, came to me in a dream! I was designing teas for the Republic of Tea at the time and I heard myself say in a dream one night, “The next product I’m going to create is a caffeine-free cappuccino and the name of the product is Teeccino!” When I woke up, I thought to myself, I wonder if I can get herbs to run through an espresso machine! It took me 9 months to develop Teeccino. I started roasting and grinding herbs myself in my kitchen and then had to look for both far and near for suppliers of the specialized roasts and grinds of the herbs I had chosen for Teeccino. Q. How is Teeccino different from other teas or coffee alternatives on the market? A. Teeccino tastes like coffee and comes in 18 flavors in two different flavor lines. You can buy it in both an all-purpose filter grind and in single serve Tee-bags so you can brew it any way you brew either coffee or tea. No other brand of coffee alternatives tastes and brews like coffee, is certified organic and comes in flavors. All other brands, like Cafix, Pero, and Roma, are instants that are imported from E. Europe. Teeccino is the only American-made coffee alternative and its flavors are certified organic too.

Q. I’ve weaned myself on and off caffeine through the years, but nothing has satisfied me on so manylevels as a nice hot cup ‘o joe. I’ve even switched to decaf, at times, Swiss Water Process.
What do you say to people like Mo?
Get it, “cup o’ joe…people like Mo?”
A. Don’t drink Decaf! It is a processed product that has been extracted of not only caffeine but also of the antioxidants that coffee beans have. Make your own decaf by blending coffee with Teeccino. That way you can control how much caffeine you want and get all the antioxidant benefits of both coffee and Teeccino. You’ll also cut down on acidity. Decaf coffee is made from highly acidic coffee beans that are even harder on your intestinal tract than regular coffee. Q. How did you start your business? Was this always your dream? Did you start it alone? Did you create the recipes? How long have you been in business? A. I am the creator of all of Teeccino’s formulas. I’ve been an herbal tea designer since the ’70’s. I’ve designed teas for Yogi Tea, Organic India and The Republic of Tea among others. I started Teeccino in my kitchen in 1994 and launched in at Expo West in 1995. From there, it has grown it to be the top selling coffee alternative in the US.Q. What is your dream/vision for TEECCINO?
Our vision is to help people build optimal health by offering healthy beverages & foods that are stimulant free. Teeccino provides people with delicious beverages that give a natural energy boost from nutrients, not stimulants. When people experience the abundance of energy that their own bodies create without stimulants, they become healthier and have more energy than they had when they were dependent on stimulants like caffeine and sugar.

Q. I notice the label states 75% Organic. Please expand. A. Some of Teeccino’s ingredients, like almonds, are simply way to expensive and the supply is too unstable to buy organic. Thus Teeccino’s Mediterranean flavors are 75% organic which is better than just 70% organic, the legal requirement for marketing products in the “Made With Organic Ingredients” category. We believe in stating the actual percentage because so many consumers don’t know the difference between the “Made With” category and the 95% USDA organic category. Stating the percentage is honest and clear.Q. The label also states Gluten-free, yet contains barley. Is that possible?
Brewed Teeccino has been tested by the top gluten testing lab in the country, The University of Nebraska, and found to have no detectable gluten at 5ppm. The FDA standard is 20ppm. Although Teeccino contains barley, gluten doesn’t extract during the brewing process. We recommend using a paper filter or the Teeccino Tee-bags. However, some people are so afraid of having a reaction to gluten that these tests results aren’t reassuring enough for them. Thus I created the Teeccino Dandelion blends that are available on the Teeccino website. Roasted dandelion root replaces barley in these blends.
Q. What is YOUR favorite way to enjoy a cup o’ TEECCINO? A. I love Teeccino brewed as a cappuccino – you can hear it in the name! That was my desire – to have a caffeine-free cappuccino and that is still the way I love it most. I have a wonderful Italian Moka pot that makes espresso strength Teeccino more simply than espresso machines. We have it on the Teeccino website and I think it is the easiest way to brew a wonderful cappuccino from Teeccino!

This looks like a good alternative for soda faactins like me as well. I am really having a hard time cutting soda in my lifestyle though I know it is not healthy.
Anything without sugar or chemicals is a better alternative to soda. 🙂
This is a fantastic idea! I have been trying to get off coffee for almost a year now, unsuccessfully! I’m willing to try anything! This sounds like a great tasting and healthy alternative! Thanks for sharing, Maura!
Thanks, Paula!

Ooooh – I want to try this! Anything to get me off the crack that is coffee! I would love to share a cup with my nutrionist since she’s always suggesting I reach for the herbal tea instead of indulging in my “Devil Juice.” 🙂
I would love to try Teeccino. I’ve heard of it but never really knew what it was, until now. Love the story too, and supporting women-founded companies!
Thank you, Christiane!
I agree..supporting women-founded businesses ROCKS!
Thanks so much, Karen!
I’m a tea drinker but this is a great idea for coffee drinkers…I ‘pinned’ it
