Tasty Tuesday-Green Festival GOOD FOOD STAGE

The Morselist interviewed Laurie Kaufman of The Green Festival
and is soooo excited about this incredible upcoming event!
What is it?
Green Festival is the nation’s largest sustainability event, where you will see the best in green. We are the only green event that screens exhibitors for their commitment to sustainability, ecological balance and social justice using Green America’s green business standards.
Enjoy more than 125 renowned authors, leaders and educators; great how-to workshops; cutting-edge films; fun activities for kids; organic beer and wine; delicious vegetarian cuisine and diverse live music. Shop in our unique marketplace of more than 300 eco-friendly businesses-everything from all-natural body care products and organic cotton clothing to Fair Trade gifts and beautiful kitchen tiles made from renewable resources.

Think of Green Festival as a walk through a sustainable community. It begins with finding solutions to help make our lives healthier-socially, economically and environmentally. Individuals, business and community leaders come together to discuss critical issues that impact us at home and abroad. Organizations and businesses showcase programs and products that restore the planet and all that inhabit it. Neighbor-to-neighbor connections are formed and skills are shared to empower people to create positive change in the world.

DIRECTIONS
When did it start?
The Green Festival started 10 years ago in San Francisco.
What is their mission?
Green Festival’s mission is to celebrate what’s working in our communities and around the world – for people, business and the environment.
What is your job and how did you come to the GF?
I’m the Regional Director for Los Angeles. Every time the Green Festival comes to a city/region they hire a local person to manage on-the-ground operations, work with the community, and find speakers who are in alignment with the festival’s mission. I’ve worked in the environmental, social justice and labor communities for a long time; I was the Communications Director for TreePeople (an enviro nonprofit) for eight years, and worked for the Bioneers, Thom Hartman, LAANE and other projects, people and causes that take a principled stand for something.
You so graciously invite me, Mo-the Morselist to your GOOD FOOD Stage
for a Healthy Baking Demo.
I’m in great company with other incredible chef’s.
How did you find the chefs and what made you choose each one to
step upon the GOOD FOOD STAGE?
I wanted to bring together a variety of chefs who prepared – or preserved – healthy foods so that the Green Festival audience could be exposed to new ideas or get re-inspired about dishes they already love. I chose you, Mo-the-Morselist, because a lot of people are struggling to find healthy sweets that won’t make them sick. Your demo, “Gluten Free and Lovin’ It”  will show some alternatives. And, you’ll be joined by Camille Leon from the Holistic Chamber of Commerce so folks can learn some of the deeper reasons it is important to go easy on sugar, wheat and salt.
We have some truly wonderful chefs who’ll be joining you on the Good Food stage, including restaurant owners, a celebrity chef, Master Preservers and Spanish-language chefs. Her is our lineup, and it’s also available online (http://www.greenfestivals.org/la/good-food-stage):

What are you hoping to promote with this venue?
We’re looking to promote a sustainable economy, ecological balance and social justice – and also to show that we can have a good time healing ourselves, our communities and our world. That’s why the Green Festival is called a “Party with a Purpose”!
How can my readers get involved with GREEN FESTIVAL?
The first destination is our website: www.greenfestivals.org. There, you’ll find our complete program and schedule of events. The Good Food stage is here: (http://www.greenfestivals.org/la/good-food-stage). But I hope your readers will move beyond this stage and check out the Main Stage with Marianne Williamson and Jesse Carmichael (keyboardist from Maroon 5), or head over to our Sustainable Home & Garden Pavilion to learn about urban beekeeping or raising organic food in containers. There’s also the Green Kid’s Zone, Community Action Stage and so much more.
We also have some fun volunteer positions available which will earn you a weekend pass to the festival, and you’ll be contributing to a great cause!
THANK YOU, Laurie!!!
